Verizon takes in subscribers with iPhone; new CEO
NEW YORK (AP) - Verizon Communications Inc. is a big boost from iPhone, adding several new subscribers on contracts in the second quarter in two and a half years.Yet, AT & T Inc., which has been the exclusive seller of iconic phone of Apple to the United States until February, still active three iPhone for all two Verizon does.During the validation of a benefit for the second quarter Friday, also said Verizon Chief Operating Officer Lowell McAdam will take over, the long time CEO Ivan Seidenberg, 64, August 1. The company reported the estate of the last year. McAdam, 57, is that the former head of Verizon Wireless.Seidenberg will remain President of the society.Verizon added 1.3 million subscribers wireless under the contract in April to June, a result that flies to new subscribers the slowdown of the industry over the past two years. As almost everyone already has a cell phone, acquire new subscribers is primarily a question of decoy by over other carriers. A year ago, Verizon adds simply 665,000 subscribers under the contract.Enabled Verizon iPhone for $ 2.3 million, well below the AT & T to 3.6 million for the same period. Verizon sells only the iPhone 4, starting at $ 199, while AT & T also sells the old iPhone 3GS for $49.Yet AT & T recruited only 331,000 new subscribers of contract in the quarter. The iPhone is its Chief draw, while Verizon has other advantages on his side, such as a network of '4 G' new, Ultrafast in many cities and a larger "3 G" data network.Verizon said that its net income is $ 1.61 billion, or 57 cents per share, in the three months ended June 30. A year ago, it posted a loss of $ 1.19 billion, or 42 cents per share.Analysts surveyed by FactSet average expected earnings to 55 cents per share.Income increased by 2.8% to $ 27.5 billion, complies with the expectations of analysts.Excluding the sale of telephone lines in 14 States at the end of the second quarter of last year, Verizon revenue grew by 6.3% on the back of its successful Wireless operations. However, only 55% of Verizon Wireless benefits flow to the bottom line of Verizon Communications, because the British carrier Vodafone Group PLC owns 45% of Verizon Wireless. "In terms of revenue growth and acceleration of the growth of revenue, this has been one of the most beautiful areas of Verizon since the economic crisis of 2008," said CEO Seidenberg.Actions of Verizon slipped 17 cents to $37.40 action in premarket trading.
